FAQs
What is chocolate tart made of?
Chocolate tart consists of a rich, sweetened buttery crust and smooth chocolate filling. The crust is usually made from a mixture of flour, cocoa powder, sugar and butter, and is rolled out and pressed into a tart pan. The crust is pre-baked to ensure it gets crisp and fully cooked. The filling is made from melted chocolate combined with heated heavy cream and butter mixed with beaten eggs to get a custard-like texture. The mixture is poured into the crust and baked until just set, which makes it creamy with a dense centre.
Why is it called a tart?
The term “tart’ comes from the French word “tarte,” which can mean either pie or tart. In actual terms, the difference between pie and tart lies in their pastry. Pies usually have a sheet of pastry covering the filling while tarts have an open top, exposing the filling. Earlier tarts had savoury and meat fillings while the later versions leaned towards sweet fillings like fruit and custard.
Is tart a cake or pie?
A tart is strictly neither a cake nor a pie. Even though it shares similarities with both desserts, it is a separate category altogether. Tarts have a pastry base made of shortcrust pastry with a filling on the top. Tarts typically have an open top which distinguishes it from pies.
Does chocolate tart contain egg?
Traditional versions do contain eggs, but this Cadbury chocolate tart recipe does not include eggs. Eggs are commonly used in the chocolate filling to bind the ingredients and create a smooth custard-like texture, but this is easily achievable with butter and heavy cream only. Also with the Cadbury Oreo crust, the flavours enhance even more.
Is chocolate tart easy to make at home?
Absolutely! You can make chocolate tart easily at home with this recipe. With just four ingredients — Cadbury Oreo biscuits, butter, Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate and heavy cream — this decadent chocolate tart comes together in just 30 minutes!
