1. The Little Mermaid
Begin your underwater adventure with Ariel, the iconic mermaid princess. Make sumptuous vanilla cupcakes with a sea salt caramel filling, and top them with fondant-made seashells and edible pearls to recreate the feel of her home. Make a cake, cover it with ocean blue fondant and add a fondant figurine of Ariel, paying special attention to her fiery red hair. Add the cupcakes on the cake with toothpicks—not straight but slightly tilted and meeting above the cake.
Another option is to dive deep into the heart of Atlantica with a spectacular underwater castle cake. Bake and layer with sponge cake and cover in fondant. Adorn with fondant seahorses, coals, pearls and other unique items found underwater. Also reference items like the fork Ariel uses to brush her hair. In the center of the princess cake, place a white chocolate sculpture of Ariel sitting on the castle and dust the entire princess cake with edible glitter.
2. Finding Nemo
Take a plunge into the Great Barrier Reef with Finding Nemo Jelly Cups. in jelly cups, add layer after layer of orange and blue, representing the vast waters where Nemo and his friends have their special adventures. On each cup, add gummy fish to add to the feel. Also make edible coral from spun sugar and add on each cup. Or, with fondant, make miniature Nemos and Dorys and use toothpicks to stick them up in the cups.
Or you can create adorable Dory cake pops that capture the spirit of everyone's favorite forgetful fish. Crumble some moist chocolate cake and fold it in with the frosting. Using your hands, shape each ball into Dory’s silhouette. Add fondant to perfect the look and complete with candy eyes. They’re a fun, quick snack, reminiscent of the underwater wonders and the Finding Nemo world.
3. Moana
Embark on a tropical adventure with a Moana-themed fruit parfait. One after the other, layer mango, pineapple and coconut yogurt one on top of the other. Then add tropical flowers and shredded coconut on top. Using wafer paper, make a tiny sail for each cup and add a fondant-made mini Moana figure to each cup, standing on a toothpick.
Or make a simple round chocolate cake and cover in light blue and white shaded fondant that’s reminiscent of the water. Cover ¾ of the cake with edible flowers placed carefully on top with tweezers; place the bigger flowers first and then fill the gaps with smaller flowers. In the ¼ space that's visible, add a Moana figurine with a huge tropical leaf made of green fondant held in her hand.
4. Luca
Create the iconic poster image of Luca on your cake. To do this, bake a cake and cover it in blue fondant. Then create a Luca figure using fondant and place it horizontally on the cake. The important thing is to add light blue fondant to the lower half of the figurine, so it looks like he’s floating in the water. Create the underwater creatures in the film around the cake’s sides so it looks like they're floating around in the water.
Another way of creating this concept is to make a multilayered cake. On top, add a fondant-made face of Luca. Then add sugar candy around the face, some pressed more into the cake and some of it staying a little higher, so it looks like his face is showing as he flows through water. On the various layers below, add shells, weeds, starfish and other underwater elements to add to the underwater feel.
